Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement

At the Center for Cardiometabolic Science, we are committed to fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of our work. We recognize the immense value that individuals from diverse backgrounds bring to our research, and we actively seek to cultivate an environment that celebrates and respects the unique perspectives and contributions of every member of our team.
We acknowledge the historical disparities and underrepresentation that exist in academia and the biomedical research field, particularly among underrepresented racial and ethnic minorities (URM) and the LGBTQ+ community. Hence, we strive to provide equal opportunities and support to individuals from these communities, ensuring they have the resources and mentorship needed to thrive and excel in their scientific pursuits.
Mentoring is a cornerstone of our research center, and we are proud to have mentored multiple URM and LGBTQ+ trainees. We understand the importance of creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where individuals feel valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential. We actively work to dismantle barriers and biases that may impede the success of URM and LGBTQ+ individuals, and we strive to create opportunities for them to engage in cutting-edge research and leadership roles.
To achieve our DEI goals, we actively promote recruitment strategies that attract individuals from diverse backgrounds, seeking out talent across a wide range of institutions, programs, and communities. We foster an inclusive and welcoming workplace where everyone feels safe to express their identities, share their unique perspectives, and contribute their expertise. We are committed to providing ongoing training and education to all members of our research center, promoting awareness, and understanding of the challenges faced by underrepresented groups.
We believe that diversity and inclusion fuel innovation and drive scientific advancement. By embracing a broad range of experiences, perspectives, and ideas, we enhance our ability to address the complex cardiovascular health disparities that affect diverse populations. We actively collaborate with other organizations and institutions to advance diversity in cardiovascular research and to advocate for equitable opportunities across the field.
Our commitment to DEI extends beyond the walls of our research center. We actively engage with underrepresented populations to foster interest in cardiovascular research and provide educational resources. By doing so, we hope to inspire and empower the next generation of diverse scientists and leaders, building a more inclusive and equitable future for cardiovascular research.
In conclusion, we are dedicated to creating an environment at the Center for Cardiometabolic Science that embraces and celebrates diversity, equity, and inclusion. We recognize that the success of our research and our impact on cardiovascular health depends on the collective contributions of individuals from all backgrounds. Through our commitment to DEI, we strive to create a scientific community that fosters innovation, advances knowledge, and promotes health equity for all.
